Dan Rather spends more than $2 mil on lawsuit

Dan Rather says he’s spent over $2 million of his own money in his ongoing lawsuit with CBS.

Rather, in an interview on tvnewser.com, was cagey about the exact amount.

“Respectfully I’m not going to tell you . . . I would say a whole lot,” he said. “It’s a lot more than I thought going in.”

When pressed, Rather relented a bit.

“More than 2 [million],” he said about how much he’s spent on the suit.

“That’s as far as I’m going to go.”

Rather’s $70 million wrongful dismissal lawsuit against CBS, filed in 2007, pertains to his 2004 “60 Minutes II” report on George W. Bush’s service in the Texas Air National Guard, which cited allegedly forged documents.

Rather, 78, left as anchor of the “CBS Evening News” in 2005 and left the network the following year.

He’s now an anchor at HDNet.
