Michelle Obama, daughters shop, see Broadway show in NY

President Obama’s family had its own prescription for any pre-health-care vote tension: a foot-stomping Broadway show.

First Lady Michelle Obama and daughters Sasha and Malia took in a performance of the musical “Memphis,” a story about a white radio disc jockey and a black singer whose love of music — and each other — transcends race lines and airwaves. They were joined by the first lady’s mother, Marian Robinson.

The first family caught a 3 p.m. matinee at the Shubert Theatre on West 44th Street but weren’t seated until after the rest of the audience was in the theater.

Many in the audience didn’t know they were there. Outside, police shooed crowds away from the theater.

The president’s family began their day as talking heads got in their final points about health care on the Sunday-morning talk shows.

The first lady and her daughters left the Waldorf Astoria at around 10 a.m. for a visit to F.A.O. Schwarz, where they stayed about an hour.
