Stevie Brown wants to return to Giants after lost 2013

In 2012, Stevie Brown put together a near-perfect setup season, bursting onto the scene in his first go-round with the Giants to emerge as a starting safety and lead the team with eight interceptions, tied for the second-most in the league.

It was some showing, considering Brown came to the Giants with no interceptions in his two previous NFL seasons, with the Raiders and Colts. For his efforts, Brown as a restricted free agent was given a second-round tender and signed a one-year deal for $2.023 million.

It all was going so well for Brown, who returned in 2013 as an established starter. But he tore the ACL in his left knee in an Aug. 24 preseason game against the Jets. He was put on season-ending injured reserve and had reconstructive surgery on Sept. 5.

He does not have a contract for 2014 and does not want to go anywhere.

“I want to be back,’’ Brown told The Post. “Definitely like it here, like this organization. I can’t really speculate on it. Just go in there to talk, wait for the offseason to hit.’’

Brown has done the bulk of his rehab with the Giants and has remained in the area. On Saturday from 1-3 p.m., Brown will host a combination autograph signing, raffle, and silent auction at the Garden State Plaza Sports Authority to help benefit the New Jersey Boys & Girls Club.

Brown hopes he is able to participate in many more of these appearances in the coming years with the Giants. On Friday, he ran for the first time on land and says his rehab is on schedule. He knows he might have to sign a one-year deal with the Giants in order to reestablish himself and reset his value. He is heartened by how the Giants stuck by cornerback Terrell Thomas through two ACL surgeries in a one-year span.

“I know the Giants are a fair organization,’’ Brown said. “They won’t turn their backs on anybody.’’

Without him, the Giants have used second-year Will Hill as a starting safety alongside Antrel Rolle, and Hill has played well enough to be a part of the plan moving forward. The only other safety on the roster is rookie Cooper Taylor, who has played almost exclusively on special teams and is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury.
