The might of the US marines

I totally agree with Victor Davis Hanson — if we stayed out of the Marines’ way, they could defeat any opponent (“Marines Still the Mavericks We Need,” PostOpinion, May 22).

The Obama administration is not looking for a victory in Afghanistan because that would be a blow to Islam.

I cannot wait until November, and I hope New Yorkers will wake up by then.

Hanson hits the nail on the head concerning the Marine Corps. Politicians don’t understand the ethos or mission of the Corps, and neither do some former three-star staff members of the Army.

The Marines have not gone rogue, nor would it be wise to assimilate them in the coherence of operations with the Army.

The achievements of the Corps speak volumes in themselves.

As the daughter of a Marine wounded in Okinawa at the battle of Sugar Loaf Hill, I find Hanson’s column to be absolutely brilliant.

The Marines have served our country with dedication, bravery and discipline, and Hanson captures all of this.

We owe Hanson a big “thank you” for bringing to our attention the dedication and love of country that these Marines have. It is because of men like them that we have the freedom we so often take for granted.

At times they may appear a bit rogue, but they get the job done and do it well.
