‘Jane Got a Gun’ producers sue former director

Problems continue to arise on the set of one of Hollywood’s more troubled productions.

The Natalie Portman-starring western “Jane Got a Gun,” has been plagued by issues from the start; needing script tweaks, cycling through co-stars and losing director Lynne Ramsay a day before shooting was set to begin. Now a lawsuit’s been added to the mix.

Producers of the project are suing Ramsay, attempting to recoup the $750,000 the filmmaker was paid to make adjustments to the script and film the movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The lawsuit also alleges that Ramsay “was repeatedly under the influence of alcohol, was abusive to members of the cast and crew and was generally disruptive.”

In addition to the amount she was paid, producers are also seeking punitive damages over claims of fraud and breach of contract.

Neither Portman or the rest of the crew were aware that Ramsay had quit “Jane Got a Gun”when they showed up for shooting in New Mexico this March. “Warrior” director Gavin Wilson was soon brought in as a to replace the “We Need to Talk About Kevin” filmmaker.

Almost immediately after Ramsay left the film, Jude Law, who’d come on to play the film’s villain after Michael Fassbender suddenly dropped out of the project, quit the film. He was replaced by Bradley Cooper, who left the film in May due to scheduling conflicts. Cooper was then replaced by Ewan McGregor.

A release has yet to be set for “Jane Got a Gun,” which in addition to Portman and McGregor, also stars Joel Edgerton.
