Pinup charities burned

The FDNY’s budget is so tight that proceeds from its annual “beefcake” calendar — which traditionally raises money for charities — will instead be used on the job, The Post has learned.

The estimated $300,000 earned from the FDNY 2012 Calendar of Heroes will pay for new gear, calendar publisher Alan Batt said.

“Last week, a woman from the FDNY said they’re looking to buy equipment for firehouses because of the [budget] cuts,” Batt said.

This is the first official calendar since 2008, when the release of steamy nude videos of one of the Bravest pinups on gay-porn sites forced the FDNY to halt its publication.

Fire officials did not rule out that the money will go to new equipment, but insist they have not made a final decision about how the nonprofit FDNY Foundation will disburse the proceeds.

“We’ll look at what the needs are for the coming year,” spokesman Steve Ritea said.

Louis Femia, 31, of Ladder 87, whose friends call him “The Gift” because of his muscles, said he wasn’t happy to hear that the money was going toward equipment.

“It’s a shame,” Femia said, but added, “It’s a good moneymaker and a lot of fun.”
