Houston’s path to top of Knicks could be blocked

Knicks executive Allan Houston, attending yesterday’s Team USA practice at John Jay College, said he would love to get a bigger front-office role but claims he doesn’t care about titles.

Owner James Dolan’s glowing statement yesterday about Isiah Thomas following the NBA’s objection to his consulting gig does not bode well for Houston potentially inheriting the presidency held by Donnie Walsh.

Walsh has often said he is trying to groom Houston to become a future president or GM. Houston and Thomas played together in Detroit, and a young Houston stole an aging Thomas’ minutes. Now Thomas could steal Houston’s job. One source claims Houston still dislikes Thomas.
