Cat’s got Snooki’s trademark

Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi’s bid to trademark her nickname has been derailed by a cartoon cat that shares her moniker and orange hue, it was reported yesterday.

The US Patent Office put the kibosh on the “Jersey Shore” star’s application to trademark “Snooki” for an upcoming book because the nickname had already been registered for a children’s book, “Adventures of Snooky,” The Smoking Gun Web site reported yesterday.

The office denied Polizzi’s claim because they found the two names too similar.

The book is about a baseball cap-wearing cat who falls overboard on a fishing trip.

Polizzi can appeal.

Her application to trademark “Snooki” as a “TV personality” is moving forward, according to the Web site.
