New Meadowlands Stadium loaded with fan-friendly technology

This is not your father’s football stadium.

The New Meadowlands Stadium, which will house the Giants and Jets starting next month, will include plenty of amenities and technological features aimed at giving fans the ultimate football experience, team officials announced today.

The $1.6 billion stadium, which has a capacity of 82,500, is equipped with four massive high-def video display scoreboards and more than 2,200 HD video screens mounted throughout the facility.

The new, high-tech features includes the creation of a mobile app, powered by Verizon Wireless, that will offer fans updated scores, team news, player information and highlights from around the NFL on their phones as they watch the game from their seats.

During games, the stadium’s four large JumboTrons, powered by Cisco StadiumVision, will show live game footage and weather information.

Other technological advances include displays in concession areas and team store locations throughout the stadium. In another Jetsons-like twist, fans in the stadium’s 200 luxury suites will be able to order food and merchandize through touch-screen TVs mounted in their suites.

The Giants will play its season-opener Sept. 12 against the Carolina Panthers. The Jets and Giants officially opened the place on Aug. 16 in a preseason clash won by Big Blue, 31-16.

John Mara, president and CEO of the Giants, said no new stadium has ever “integrated so many cutting-edge technological developments.”

“When fans enter New Meadowlands, they are going to feel like they’re stepping into the future,” he added.

Woody Johnson, chairman and CEO of the Jets, agreed.

“When you’re watching a game at home, comforts don’t stop at the screen and we don’t believe the enjoyment of a live sports event should stop at the field,” he said. “We’ve made the New Meadowlands Stadium more information-rich than any sporting venue has ever been — and we’ve made it as comfortable and well-stocked as your dream kitchen and living room.”

New Meadowlands Stadium CEO Mark Lamping said the new technology will “bring to our fans one of the most tailored and unforgettable experiences in sports today.”
