Agent says Jets’ Harris will wait for new contract: report

The agent for David Harris says the Jets linebacker is unlikely to sign a new contract this season, NJ.com reports.

Brian Mackler says the NFL’s unsettled labor situation make completing a deal difficult.

“Mike (Tannenbaum) and coach Rex Ryan have expressed their desire to make David a Jet for life,” Mackler said Monday. “We understand the ramifications of an uncapped year and no (collective bargaining agreement) for a second-round pick. As we stand right now, we can’t do a contract without doing a structure David and I are comfortable with.”

Tackle D’Brickashaw Ferguson was given a contract extension prior to training camp, and center Nick Mangold is reportedly on the verge of signing his own.

Cornerback Darrelle Revis’ holdout is entering its fourth week as he also seeks a new contract.

Harris, unlike the others not a first-round pick, would have difficulty reaching a satisfactory deal due to a rule limiting raises to 30 percent per season. That, however, could change during labor negotiations.

The report says Harris will make less than $1 million this season.
