Boys basketball roundup: Forest Hills knocks off South Shore

Forest Hills picked up its biggest win of the year, shocking emerging Brooklyn power South Shore, 48-46, in the sixth annual Young World HS Challenge at Gauchos Gym in The Bronx Saturday afternoon.

Arif Mehmetaj scored 18 points and Denzel Dulin added 10 for the Rangers (11-9), who have won six of its last seven. Terrence Samuel paced the Vikings (12-10) with 11 points.

No. 2 Lincoln 65, St. Rita (Ill.) 43: Isaiah Whitehead scored a team-high 17 points, Shaquille Davis added 12 points and Shaquille Stokes and Reuben King had 10 apiece for Lincoln (18-2) in the Primetime Shootout in Philadelphia, Pa.

No. 9 Wadleigh 51, Robeson 48: Louis Costen put up a double-double up 17 points and 12 rebounds and Lazaro Martinez followed with 14 points and 12 rebounds for Wadeligh, which went on a game-closing 13-0 run to pull out the win in the sixth annual Young World HS Challenge at Gauchos Gym in The Bronx. The Tigers (19-4) have won seven in a row while Robeson is now 10-11 after dropping its fourth straight.

Acorn 64, Salesian 63: Jeremy Baker and Anton Williams each scored 15 points and Jamal Rankin had 11 points and 10 assists for Acorn (15-6), which rallied from a 16-point deficit, in the sixth annual Young World HS Challenge at Gauchos Gym in The Bronx.

Fordham Prep 64, St. Joseph by the Sea 45: Nihad Musovic led Fordham Prep (14-3) with a game-high 18 points, Tom Whelan had 15 and Stephen Murphy had 10 while Mike Nierva had 17 points and Alan Siergiej netted 10 for St. Joseph by the Sea (6-13) Saturday afternoon in Huguenot.

St. Luke’s (Conn.) 57, Iona Prep 54: Tim McCarthy netted 16 points, Felix Abongo had 11 and Ben Borsellino and James Gallery had 10 points apiece for Iona Prep (9-8) Saturday afternoon in New Rochelle.

Columbus 50, Bronx Science 49: David Henriquez poured in 19 points and Ezra Ritchin had 12 points for Bronx A West-leading Bronx Science (11-5) in defeat. Columbus is 15-1 in Bronx A East.

Life Sciences Secondary 48, School of the Future 47: Shai Enn Buchanan scored 21 points and Jamal Adargo had 11 points and 10 rebounds for Life Sciences Secondary (8-3) in Manhattan B-2. School of the Future (7-3) managed just 12 points in the second half.

Health Profession 56, University Neighborhood 54: Kwame McClatchie notched 19 points and 12 rebounds, Gelvis Solano followed with 18 points and 12 boards and Karrim Johnson scored 16 points for Health Profession (6-6) in Manhattan B-2. University Neighborhood is now 2-10.
