He’s no wiz, that’s for sure!
A member of rising rap star Wiz Khalifa’s entourage was conned out of his bling and cash yesterday while trying to score a girl in Times Square, The Post has learned.
Julian Wimbush, 26, who does merchandising for Wiz, was approached around 5 a.m. near the swanky InterContinental Hotel on West 44th Street by a man asking him if he “wanted a girl,” sources said. Wimbush and other members of Khalifa’s entourage were staying at the hotel.
Wimbush told the shady character he was interested and followed him to an undisclosed building, sources said.
Once there, Wimbush was told to remove his wallet, which had $750 in it, and cell phone from his pants before stepping through a metal detector, sources added. He was also instructed to take off his necklace and charm, sources said.
Wimbush handed over his belongings to the man, who then bolted, sources said.
Too embarrassed to tell cops the truth about being conned, Wimbush concocted a tall tale about a robbery, sources said.
He initially told investigators he was looking to grab grub at a nearby Burger King when he was robbed by four armed men, according to sources.
“Empty your pockets. Give up your cell phone,” one phantom perp shouted as he whipped out a black semiautomatic handgun, according to Wimbush’s version of events, sources added.
After the supposed robbery, Wimbush returned to the hotel lobby and called the cops.
It wasn’t until detectives took Wimbush to the Midtown South Precinct and showed him photo arrays of possible suspects that he finally revealed what really happened, sources said.
Wimbush, of Tallahassee, Fla., is touring with Khalifa and his group, The Taylor Gang, which put on a sold-out show Saturday at the Best Buy Theater in Times Square.
“Julian has been at some of the tour dates, but is not a regular part of the team,” said Benjy Grinberg, Khalifa’s manager and president of the record label, Rostrum Records.
“Julian was not a part of any of our activities and I can’t account for where he was during the time we were working.”
Hours after one of his crew was conned, Khalifa – who hails from Pittsburgh – was unfazed during interviews on MTV and with DJ Funkmaster Flex on Hot 97. He never mentioned the incident at either appearance.
Wimbush was among Khalifa’s entourage arrested last Monday in Greenville, NC, after cops allegedly found 60 grams of marijuana stashed on their tour bus following a packed performance at East Carolina University.
Khalifa – who has bragged about shelling out $10,000 a month on his weed habit and recently launched his own brand of rolling papers – was released on $300,000.
Wimbush was set loose on $20,000 bail, said an officer with the Pitt County Detention Center. Eight other members of the rapper’s crew were also pinched and freed on bail.
