American Airlines to offer happy hour on certain flights

American Airlines turned Wednesday to a time proven solution to help sooth customers grumbling about the delayed, crowded flights that occur every holiday season — alcohol.

The world’s second largest carrier by passenger fleet size and operating revenues announced Wednesday it will offer happy hours on certain flights this December, as it revs up efforts to keep antsy customers happy.

The company said Wednesday it will sell cocktails, beer and wine for $5 on domestic, Canada, Caribbean and Mexico flights scheduled to depart between 5:00 pm and 5:59 pm as part of its “5@5 Happy Hour” promotion. The $5 price represents a discount of $1 on beer and $2 on liquor and wine.

Earlier this month, United Airlines introduced a new cocktail for passengers, the Sunrise Sunset, which contains cranberry apple juice, orange juice, lime and vodka. The Sunrise Sunset costs $7 for passengers in economy class.

Delta Air Lines also introduced two new in-flight cocktails in November — the Bourbon Breeze and the Skyy Quench, which includes Skyy Vodka and grapefruit soda. Delta’s cocktails also cost $7.
