Disney Channel is all atwitter over the announcement of its upcoming live-action movie directed by “High School Musical” guy Kenny Ortega.
It’ll be called “Descendants” and will track what happened to the progeny of evil Disney villains Cruella De Vil (“101 Dalmatians”), Meleficent, the Evil Queen (“Sleeping Beauty”) and Jafar (“Aladdin”), who’ve all been imprisoned on an island alongside other villains and sidekicks. In the movie, which is being cast now for a 2015 premiere — so we’ve got a long way to go here, people — the offspring (Carlos, Mal, Evvie and Jay) are allowed back into the kingdom run by the teenaged son of the King and Queen (from “Beauty and the Beast”) to attend prep school alongside the offspring of iconic Disney heroes (Fairy Godmother, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel and Mulan). Oy.
Casting the movie are Natalie Hart and Jason La Padura (who worked on the mega-rated “High School Musical,” “Camp Rock” and “Teen Beach Movie”).
