Ducati wheels into luxe bag biz

Luxe luggage label Tumi is teaming up with Italian motorcycle maker Ducati to produce a new line of sporty backpacks, briefcases and travel bags, The Post has learned. Slated to hit stores this fall, the new line will feature seven different pieces in racy, red-and-black designs that are “super-lightweight” for young male clientele on the go, according to Tumi CEO Jerome Griffith.

“I don’t see it as a story of motorcycles and luggage — I see it as a story of two design companies,” Griffith said, noting that none of the pieces is designed to be strapped to a motorbike like the Ducati Diavel, (pictured).

The Ducati collection is Tumi’s latest effort to speed up production of new designs as the $500 million firm molds itself into a lifestyle brand.
