Gun family gets probation, jail time

A gun-loving Brooklyn family was sentenced on weapons charges Wednesday after cops busted them with an armory of shotguns, assault rifles, and even an umbrella with a knife in the handle.

Husband and wife Thomas Siano, 60, and Kathleen Siano, 61, and their son Vincent Siano, 33, were arrested in their Gravesend home in 2010, where Thomas kept enough old guns to arm a platoon.

Cops found nine rifles, nine shotguns, two assault rifles, plus air pistols and ammo inside a crawl space in the Siano home, according to their criminal complaint. Daggers, a sword, a machete, and the umbrella with a knife in the handle were also found.

Investigators didn’t believe the family had deadly plans for the guns or were planning to sell them, cops said at the time of the arrest.

The three pleaded guilty in July.

Thomas was sentenced to 21 months behind bars while his wife and son each got probation.

Both the elder Sianos have serious health issues, prosecutors said.

“This plea arrangement was worked out largely because of his health condition and because many of the weapons were antiques,” Brooklyn prosecutor Joseph Alexis said in Brooklyn Supreme Court.
