Clintons endorse de Blasio

Former President Bill Clinton and his wife, ex-Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, are endorsing Bill de Blasio for mayor.

The Democratic heavyweights said in a statement Wednesday that they were “proud to see him run a thoughtful, creative campaign.”

De Blasio became the Democratic nominee this week. He worked in the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development during President Clinton’s administration. He also managed Hillary Rodham Clinton’s successful bid to become a U.S. senator from New York.

The Clintons did not endorse during the primary. They cited their connections to several candidates, including Anthony Weiner. His wife, Huma Abedin (HOO’-muh AB’-uh-deen), is a top aide to former Secretary Clinton.

It was not immediately clear if the Clintons would attend any campaign events for de Blasio.
