De Blasio rakes in $3.7M worth of donations

Democratic mayoral nominee Bill de Blasio took in a whopping $3.7 million in campaign donations during the first three weeks of October — roughly $3 million more than GOP nominee Joe Lhota, the latest filings show.

De Blasio’s haul included a ritzy fundraiser hosted by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in a midtown hotel on Monday, which brought in roughly $1 million in a single day.

De Blasio had worked on Clinton’s campaign for a US Senate seat back in 2000.

The latest Campaign Finance Board filings show de Blasio, who’s been up by more than 40 points in every poll conducted during the general election, with about $1.2 million left to spend before the Nov. 5 election.

Lhota has roughly $400,000 cash in hand for the remaining 10 days in the campaign.

However, his run for City Hall could get a lift from a preliminary Appeals Court ruling this week that allows individuals to contribute more than New York’s current limit of $150,000 toward independent political action committees.

The lawsuit challenging the contribution cap to so-called Super PACs was filed by Republican supporters of Lhota.
