Westboro Baptist Church to protest Fashion Week

Fashion Week supermodels are the height of style and elegance — but to the vile Westboro Baptist Church, they’re nothing but “sluts” and “proud whores.”

The crazed Kansas religious sect — infamous for their heinous protests of military funerals — is planning to rally tomorrow outside the tents at Lincoln Center to decry what they call fashion’s “Slutwalk extraordinaire.”

A spokesman for the Fred Phelps-led “church” vowed yesterday to bring so much hate to Fashion Week that fashionistas will think John Galliano is in town.

“The whole thing is vanity!” roared Westboro mouthpiece Steve Drain. “You’re going to teach the women, especially the young women of this country, to doll themselves up … All you are doing is teaching girls to be proud whores!”

He said the sect believes “the whole idea [of the] fashion industry is to make women look as whorish as possible and men look as effeminate at possible.”

Drain even offered up a little Bible-thumping fashion advice.

“Put some jeans on and fear God,” he told New Yorkers. “Forget about all this fashion nonsense.”

Drain personally plans to make his own fashion statement and wear jeans and a T-shirt bearing one of the group’s evil slogans as it holds its protest at Lincoln Center’s Damrosch Park at 3 p.m. tomorrow.

Sources at Fashion Week tell The Post they are aware that Phelps’ church is planning to show up tomorrow.

“Security at Lincoln Center is taking this seriously because they fear the fashion crowd could be upset or offended by their protest and the messages on their placards,” one source said.

The group will also get an icy reception from the city’s fashion set.

“I would probably attack them if they said anything to me,” said Leodee Dawson, a television fashion journalist who was appalled by the church’s attack on the women of Fashion Week.

“It’s not about making women look like whores,” she told The Post. “This is all high-end couture. How can Fashion Week make women look like sluts and whores? The shows I’ve seen are actually very conservative. The women were very covered.”

Drain also said the church would continue its relentless vile attacks on the gay community.

The sect has been so hungry to get their homophobic message out that they have even brought their protests — where they wave signs reading, “God hates fags” — to the funerals of service members.

A recent Supreme Court ruling upheld their right to hold such demonstrations as protected by the First Amendment.

“The fashion industry is dominated by fags and fag enablers,” Drain said. “So we’ll preach to them.”

The Fashion Week visit will be by far the least offensive part of the church’s weekend in New York. They also plan to protest at several 9/11 memorial events on Sunday.

When the church shows up at Fashion Week, they had better be ready to deal with more than just security guards and the NYPD — the fashion police will also be on patrol.

“If they’re looking homely, they wont fit in,” said 22-year-old male model Sven Marcelli.

“They will be outsiders at Fashion Week. They won’t fit in. If they make a big deal, people here will fight back.”
