Mike shows gov love

Mayor Bloomberg applied some warmth yesterday to the big chill between him and Gov. Cuomo, praising the governor’s dramatic plan to build a new convention center at Aqueduct.

“He’s trying to solve problems here,” Bloomberg said “At least he’s trying new things.”

The mayor has good reason to try to find common ground with Cuomo since he’s counting on extra education aid when the next state budget is released.

By most accounts, relations between Albany and City Hall have been frosty.

But yesterday, when asked about the convention-center plan, Bloomberg went out of his way to say nice things about Cuomo.

He called the governor’s State of the State Address “a very good speech,” even though critics dismissed it as routine, and he praised Cuomo’s initiative.

Bloomberg wasn’t ready to endorse an expansion of gambling at Aqueduct, saying he wanted to see the details and make sure the city got a cut of the action.
