HAL GETS EMOTIONAL OVER END

Hal Steinbrenner admitted that last night’s final game at Yankee Stadium was tough for him to see – even with a new ballpark set to open next year.

“It’s mixed emotions period, without a doubt,” Steinbrenner, speaking for his famous family, said at a press conference last night. “[This is] about this facility that [was here] 85 wonderful years, and I’ve got a lot of memories over 30-plus years. And as excited as I am to go to a new facility, a little bit of mixed emotion.”

Though Hal was there last night, his father, George, and brother, Hank, were not. It’s unknown why Hank wasn’t around, and according to Hal, George was watching the festivities on television in Tampa.

“He decided just a couple days ago to stay at home with my mom and watch the game at home,” he said. “He knew that I would be here to represent the family along with [sister Jennifer Swindal]. So he’s watching right now as we speak.”

Hal, though, said George “was very emotional” over the stadium’s closing. He also said that within the next few weeks, the decisions regarding next year’s Yankees team – including the future of GM Brian Cashman – will start to get made.

“We’ve got a lot of decisions to make. We know that,” he said. “We’ve got numerous areas to improve in, obviously. We know that.

“And we’re going to do everything we can. That much I promise the fans.”
