When it comes to ratings, I guess it’s all relative, right?
To whit: HLN’s airing of last Saturday’s Daytime Emmy Awards averaged only 912,000 viewers. That doesn’t sound like much for a major awards show — one which has aired on two major broadcast networks (NBC and CBS). But consider that, for HLN, those numbers were historic.
Those 912,000 viewers, in fact, represent the biggest audience in the network’s history — so one man’s scoffed-at numbers are another man’s ratings gold (to borrow from the old adage).
And, speaking of the Daytime Emmys . . . kudos to “The Dr. Oz Show” for winning its second consecutive statuette as Outstanding Informative Talk Show. Dr. Mehmet Oz hosts; the show’s executive-produced by Mindy Borman and co-executive-produced by Amy Chiaro.

CUNY TV series, “Science & U!” celebrates its one-year anniversary with “Science and Pain,” premiering today (8 a.m., 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.) with Ernabel Demillo. Gail produces the show (she’s also CUNY TV’s executive in charge of production).

ESPN’s Adam Schefter moderates a “Concussion in Youth Sports” roundtable today at the New York Institute of Technology Auditorium. It’s sponsored by Dick’s Sporting Goods Foundation and features, among others, Drew Brees, Mike Richter and Carl Banks . . . Good-guy actor Steve Schirripa guests tonight on “Celebrity Countdown” (8:30 on MSG) to talk about the Top 25 Knicks moments from last season . . . The complete fourth season of Nick’s “iCarly” (Amanda Cosgrove) is out on DVD July 10 . . . I just finished reading Wil Haygood’s 2003 biography of Sammy Davis, Jr., “In Black and White: The Life of Sammy Davis, Jr.” Highly recommended. It’s a fascinating look at an extremely talented — and tortured — man.
