SAMPSON DONORS CHOW DOWN AT STATE TROUGH

Nonprofits and their directors who opened their wallets for state Senate Democratic Leader John Sampson were rewarded with $63,500 in pork-barrel funds, The Post has learned.

Sampson, who is considered the main roadblock to mayoral control of the schools, doled out the money in 17 member items from 2004 to now, according to an analysis of campaign-finance records.

The Brooklyn Democrat dished the dough to 11 groups, which shelled out $5,365 for his coffers.

The largest campaign contributor to take home a healthy slice of the pork pie was Renae Smith, who heads the Family Development Program in Brooklyn.

Smith made six donations to Sampson totaling $2,690 from 2000 to 2007, according to the records.

Sampson twice doled out state funds to her group — in the 2006-07 and 2008-09 legislative sessions — amounting to $5,000.

Asked to comment, Sampson said, “I represent some of the more distressed communities in the state, and fund social-service organizations which provide local health care, after-school programs and public-safety initiatives.”
