Walters sidelined after fall

Barbara Walters spent part of the weekend in a Washington hospital after falling down stairs and suffering a cut to her forehead, ABC officials said yesterday.

The network scuttled plans to have the 83-year-old co-host of ABC’s “The View” cover President Obama’s inauguration today.

Walters tripped while attending a pre-inauguration bash at British Ambassador Peter Westmacott’s residence Saturday night.

She was taken to a hospital “out of an abundance of caution,” according to a network spokesman.

Walters was treated for her injuries, underwent a full examination and remains in the hospital under observation, ABC officials said.

“Barbara is alert and telling everyone what to do, which we all take as a very positive sign,” said ABC News Senior Vice President Jeffrey Schneider.

Walters’ last health scare came in 2010, when she underwent heart surgery to replace a faulty heart valve.
