Matteau’s son on Devils’ roster

Stefan Matteau has made the Devils’ roster — for now.

The son of former Rangers great Stephane Matteau was kept on the team’s 23-man roster yesterday, and the 18-year-old Matteau can play five games with the Devils before the first year of his entry-level contract goes into effect. Odds are the team will send him back to the juniors before that happens, which they hope will get them closer to the return date of second-year center Adam Henrique, who is recovering from thumb surgery.

Yesterday, Henrique was optioned to AHL Albany along with forward Mattias Tedenby, as neither had to pass through waivers. Winger Bobby Butler was placed on waivers, and assuming he clears by noon today, Tedenby will be recalled and Butler will head to Albany.

It’s expected Tedenby, who spent training camp skating with the second line, will play in the season opener tonight against the Islanders at the Coliseum.

Veteran forward Mathieu Darche did not receive a contract, but reportedly is going to continue practicing with the team. With two goalies and 13 forwards, the roster was rounded out by eight defensemen.
