MLB: Blue Jays release Jamie Moyer

The Blue Jays released Jamie Moyer, who had agreed to a minor league deal last month. The 49-year-old left-hander, who was cut by Baltimore and Colorado earlier this season, gave up seven runs over six innings in his second start on Tuesday. He was 1-1 with an 8.18 ERA at Las Vegas. He has 269 wins in a 25-year major league career.

Texas pitcher Yu Darvish and Cardinals third baseman David Freese were voted by fans into next week’s All-Star Game in Kansas City.

Tampa Bay’s Luke Scott tied the club record by going 37 consecutive at-bats without a hit. Bill Bergen, a catcher for the Brooklyn Dodgers, holds the major league hitless record by a position player. He went 0- for-46 in 1909.

NBA: Roy to make comeback with T’wolves

Brandon Roy agreed to terms with the Timberwolves on a two-year deal worth $10.4 million last night, and Minnesota also agreed to terms with Portland’s Nicolas Batum on a four-year, $45 million deal with bonuses that could make the deal worth more than $50 million.

Hasheem Thabeet agreed to a two-year guaranteed contract with the Thunder. . . .The Magic agreed in principle to a new deal with point guard Jameer Nelson.

NHL: Capitals re-sign two free-agent centers

The Capitals re-signed restricted free-agent centers Mathieu Perreault and Jay Beagle. Perreault received a two-year contract worth $2.1 million. Beagle got a three-year deal worth $2.7 million. . . .The Flames re-signed Swedish forward Mikael Backlund to a one-year, $725,000 deal.

ETC.: Armstrong says he’s a victim of a ‘vendetta’

Lance Armstrong accused U.S Anti-Doping Agency chief executive Travis Tygart yesterday of waging a “vendetta” against him following reports that several former teammates have received reduced suspensions after admitting to doping in return for testifying against the seven-time Tour de France champion.

In yet another crash-marred finish, Andre Greipel of Germany led a frenzied bunch sprint to win the fifth stage of the Tour de France for his second straight stage victory. Fabian Cancellara retained the yellow jersey.

David Beckham was suspended for one game by MLS for kicking a ball at an opponent in the L.A. Galaxy’s loss Saturday at San Jose. The Galaxy’s next game is Sunday at Chicago.
