Jess Simpson bashes ‘Melrose’ after they fire Ashlee

Now she’s a TV critic.

Sexy singer Jessica Simpson had nothing but sour notes for “Melrose Place” — a week after the show fired her sister, Ashlee Simpson-Wentz — calling the show “crap.”

“CW catching up on MP.” Simpson posted on her Twitter page last night.

“Who writes this crap? I have had bad scripts to work with, but this?

“Thank God my sister is amazing and got you some press.”

The CW declined to fire back at Jessica Simpson yesterday and simply said Ashlee’s “Melrose” role had “run out.”

Simpson-Wentz and co-star Colin Egglesfield were dropped from the cast, according to media reports, despite being tied to an ongoing story line about the death of Sydney Andrews, played by original Melrose cast member Laura Leighton.

Once the murder-mystery runs its course, producers want to take the show in a lighter, sexier direction — one that didn’t include Ashlee’s character, Violet Watson.

Ashlee’s last episode will air in January.

“She [Ashlee] was a regular on the show for the pilot plus the first 12 episodes and is not continuing on the series beyond that,” said CW senior VP Paul McGuire.

“Melrose” producers deemed Simpson-Wentz to be expendable after signing original cast member Heather Locklear to reprise her deliciously wicked role of Amanda Woodward, according to multiple published reports last week.

A show insider told Us magazine last week that producers just didn’t like Ashlee’s acting.

“They hired her because they needed a good name to help create buzz,” a show source told the mag. “But she was embarrassingly bad. Producers cut her down as much as possible.”

Another snitch told the magazine that staffers were afraid to confront the “7th Heaven” actress.

“She’s the worst actress,” the insider said, “but nobody will tell her.”
