NYC celebrates Pinstripe glory

Downtown Manhattan will explode in confetti today in honor of the Yankees’ 27th world championship.

The parade will begin on Broadway at Battery Place and continue north up the Canyon of Heroes to Chambers Street. The parade will be followed by a ceremony at City Hall Plaza, at which Mayor Bloomberg will present Keys to the City to the team.

The sidewalks lining the Canyon of Heroes along Broadway from the Battery to City Hall are open to the public, and the City will set up a large screen near City Hall Park to watch the ceremony.

Here’s what you need to know:

Start time: 11 a.m.

Route: Starts at Battery Place and Broadway, proceeds up Broadway to Chambers Street, along the Canyon of Heroes

Ceremony: 1 p.m. at City Hall Plaza; tickets required (only 500 given out); giant monitor in CIty Hall Park will let general public view the event

Getting there: NYC transit, LIRR, Metro North and PATH running extra trains throughout day; closest subways are 4/5 at Bowling Green, J/M/Z at Broad Street; and 4/5 at Wall Street

Weather: Chilly and partly sunny; brisk 45 degrees predicted for parade time, with high of 47
