2:10 p.m. — The ceremony is over. Only 96 days to pitchers and catchers!

2:05 p.m. — Bloomberg calls New York “the capital of baseball” before closing out the ceremony. Rapper Jay-Z, wearing his Yankee cap, performs to end the festivities.

2:02 p.m. — Jeter closes out the key ceremony be getting his as the crowd screams in delight. Bloomberg then hands Hal Steinbrenner a key for him to give to his dad George.

2:01 p.m. — Girardi gets his key and loud cheers.

1:57 p.m. — Seems like everyone gets a key! Coaches, team doctors, you name it. The ceremony goes on.

1:53 p.m. — Matsui gets the lodest cheers, so far, as he walkes up to get his key.

1:51 p.m. — Bloomberg continues to shake hands and give out keys.

1:48 p.m. — The players get their keys. A-Rod, still wearing his hat and shades, gets a loud cheer.

1:41 p.m. — Bloomberg hands out keys to members of the Yankee front office.

1:39 p.m. — The crowd is serenaded to a rendition of “God Bless America.”

1:36 p.m. — Girardi thanks the fans.

1:35 p.m. — Fans start chanting “28! 28!” hoping for a repeat next year.

1:33 p.m. — Hal Steinbrenner takes to the podium and thanks the city for the big party. “It’s hard to believe it’s been nine years [since the last World Series]. … This one is for my dad.”

1:32 p.m. — The players and crowd rises for the playing of the National Anthem.

1:31 p.m. — Jeter hold aloft the World Series trophy.

1:30 p.m. — The crowd goes wild.

1:28 p.m. — The players walk onto the stage as the song, “We are the Champions” blares in the background over the loudspeakers.

1:26 p.m. — Bloomberg takes to the podium. The ceremony has begun.

1:20 p.m. — The ceremony is now officially 20 minutes late.

1:18 p.m. — The fans are watching this season’s greatest moments on large screens set up inside the plaza. The highlight reel continues to play as the ceremony is about to start.

1:15 p.m. — Members of the Yankees staff make their way out of City Hall onto the stage amid loud cheers and applause. The staff is basking in the glory as the sun continues to shine on the plaza. No players have come out yet.

1:12 p.m. — Bloomberg and Schumer are engaged in a deep conversation. Can they be discussing nest year’s Yankees batting order?

1:09 p.m. — Reggie Jackson and Yogi Berra hang out waiting for the ceremony to start. Jackson briefly fields a call. Mayor Bloomberg and Sen. Chuck Schumer also make their way onto the stage.

1:04 p.m. — The ceremony is running a bit behind as Nick Swisher, standing on the upstaris balcony, takes a picture of the waiting crowd with his cellphone.

1:01 p.m. — A sea of Yankee hats can be seen gathered at City Hall plaza, including many kids who skipped school today. Of course, there are no Mets fans in sight. They must all be home hiding. For them, it’s only 14 weeks until pitchers and catchers.

12:58 p.m. — Former Mayor David Dinkins joins Ed Koch and Giuliani on the stage as the players and Yankee staff prepare for the ceremony. Mayor Bloomberg will present each player and manager Joe Giraldi with a key to the city.

12:55 p.m. — Damon gets a loud cheer from the 500 people gathered at City Hall plaza after he pops his head out the window. A.J. Burnett joined him briefly for a peek before they both disappeared.

12:51 p.m. — City Hall ceremony to get underway in 10 minutes.

12:33 p.m. — Parade comes to an end. Players are having lunch with Bloomberg ahead of the 1 p.m. City Hall ceremony.

12:32 p.m. — Energy and enthusiasm continues to take over Broadway as confetti continues to get tossed in the air even as the parade ends.

12:30 p.m. — One notable figure absent from the parade is ailing owner George Steinbrenner. One fan along the route sported a placard that read: “Boss for the Hall of Fame.”

12:29 p.m. — Some 1,000 pounds of confetti will need to be cleaned up once this parade ends. Get out those brooms, guys!

12:18 p.m. — Rivera waves a flag from his homeland of Panama and flashes a big smile to the crowd. Pitcher Joba Chamberlain waves and pumps his fist as the crowd continues to cheer and low horns.

12:16 p.m. — Parade nears its end as fans start leaving the route. Fans perched on buildign ledges and hanging out windows continue to toss confetti and paper out of windows.

12:10 p.m. — The confetti is starting to build up along the route. Sanitation Department workers feverishly working to sweep it out of the way.

12:06 p.m. — Yankee picther Mariano Rivera makes his way onto the 12th, and last, float and will close out the parade. Fans chanting, “We want Mo! We want Mo!”

12:05 p.m. — Derek Jeter, winner of five World Series titles, gets the loudest cheers as his float goes up Broadway. Chants of “De-rek Je-ta!” fill the air.

12:03 p.m. — Pitcher Andy Pettitte makes his way onto one of the floats. Carrying his own camcorder, Pettitte takes a look at the crowd and starts filming it.

11:54 a.m. — The floats continue to make their way along the 12-block route get closer to City Hall. Once there, the players will have lunch with Mayor Bloomberg before the 1 p.m. ceremony.

11:36 a.m. — Former Yankee greats Yogi Berra and Reggie Jackson join today’s heroes along the parade.

11:26 a.m. — The crowd grows more and more excited as confetti and streams of toilet paper blow in the wind.

11:25 a.m. — A calm and cool-looking Alex Rodriguez sporting a black fedora and shades as he waits for his float to arrive so he can jump on and revel in the celebration. As the crowd continued to chant “A-Rod,” Rodriguez just stood there blowing bubbles with his pink gum.

11:11 a.m. — Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani, a staple at Yankee games, makes his way up the parade route.

11:10 a.m. — Fans are in a frenzy as the floats make their way up Broadway amid a snowstorm of paper.

11:07 a.m. — World Series MVP Hideki Matsui gets loud cheers with fans chanting, “MVP! MVP!”

11:01 a.m. — The parade begins with a marching band. The float featuring the trophy includes manager Joe Girardi and Mayor Bloomberg sporting a Yankee cap.

10:45 a.m. — The World Series trophy has arrived and placed on one of the floats as the players sign autographs.

10:31 a.m. — Three people injured in seperate locations along the route because of the large crowd.

10:25 a.m. — WNYW-TV/Fox 5 estimates that there are 1 million fans lined up along Broadway. The NYPD does not release official crowd figures.

10:12 a.m. — The mayor’s office announced that more than 37,000 people entered yesterday’s open lottery for free tickets to the City Hall plaza ceremony honoring the team at 1 p.m. Only 500 free tickets were distributed.

10 a.m. — Yankee fans by the hundreds have descended upon lower Manhattan for today’s Yankee parade up the Canyon of Heroes.
