Broken track causing Northeast Corridor delays

Amtrak is trying to determine if bitter cold temperatures are to blame for a broken track in New Jersey that’s causing delays on trains into New York City.

Amtrak spokesman Cliff Cole says workers expect to repair the fracture, which is about an inch long, well before Wednesday afternoon’s rush.

New Jersey Transit says inbound Northeast Corridor trains between Trenton and New York City are operating up to 40 minutes late because of the repairs near Princeton Junction.

Meanwhile, Raritan Valley Line service resumed Wednesday morning between Cranford and Newark after Amtrak repaired overhead wires.

Temperatures in New Jersey barely reached the teens early Wednesday.
