The Rev. Al Sharpton thinks the NYPD should lead a summit on the city’s recent surge in gun violence.
He tried the idea on Police Commissioner Ray Kelly today — just days after Kelly accused the leaders of crime-ridden communities of complaining more about stop-and-frisk than about the shootings.
He “threw out the gauntlet to leadership and elected officials,” Sharpton said. “Now let’s come to the table and see what we can solve.”
Kelly said he liked the summit idea and added, “We’ve worked with Reverend Sharpton in the past on the scourge of gun violence . . . and look forward to doing so again.”
