5 hurt in gun-show shootings

Accidental shootings at gun shows in three states left five people injured yesterday — the same day gun advocates rallied at state capitals around the country.

At the Dixie Gun and Knife Show in Raleigh, NC, a 12-gauge shotgun discharged as owner Gary Lynn Wilson, 36, unzipped its case at a security entrance and three people were sprayed with buckshot, said a state Agriculture Department spokesman.

In Indianapolis, Emory L. Cozee, 54, shot himself in the hand while loading his .45-caliber semiautomatic as he left the Indy 1500 Gun and Knife show on the state fairgrounds, State Police said.

And in Medina, Ohio, a gun dealer was checking out a semiautomatic handgun he had bought when he accidentally pulled the trigger, and a round hit his friend in the arm and leg, police said.
