Concussion sidelines Mets’ Bay

Jason Bay’s ugly first season with the Mets just got worse.

The left fielder suffered a mild concussion when he crashed into a wall trying to make a catch in Los Angeles on Friday, but it wasn’t diagnosed until yesterday after Bay complained of symptoms during the team’s flight home on Sunday.

Bay said he hoped to be back “within a week,” but he won’t be able to resume any activity until after he is symptom-free. He will be re-evaluated over the next two days.

“It depends on when the headache goes away,” said Bay, who played well with the injury throughout the weekend. “If it doesn’t, then we’ll have to make a decision. . . . I didn’t get a headache until the flight home on Sunday.”

Despite yet another negative to an already disappointing season, in which he is hitting just .259 with six homers and 47 RBIs, Bay didn’t curse his luck.

“I thought about that, but running into a fence, playing the game hard, if that’s a consequence I’m fine with it,” Bay said. “If it happened some other way, then I’d probably be more upset.”
