All quiet on the Hollywood front

Even Hollywood seems baffled by the waffling, indecision and buck-passing going on in Washington (“The Silence of the Celebs on Syria,” L. Brent Bozell III, PostOpinion, Sept. 14).

Suddenly, it’s no longer a great idea to co-sign anything and everything their fearless leader in the White House is doing or failing to do.

What makes Hollywood celebrities different from anyone else, other than fame and money?

The fact that they enjoy unlimited access to an all-accepting media does not automatically make their political views any better or worse than those of other Americans.

While it would be wrong to paint everyone in Hollywood with the same brush, it’s encouraging to see that the usual group of left-leaning, politically correct celebrities is sitting the whole Syrian debacle out.

In the old Soviet Union, a cult of personality formed around the dictator. Speak out against him, and it was off to the gulag or a mental asylum.

If you speak out in North Korea, you are sent to a prison camp and are lucky if you don’t starve to death.

We are much more civilized. If one speaks against an Obama policy in Hollywood, he is only shunned by Tinseltown’s glitterati.
