Settlement talks delay Huguette Clark trial

The start of the trial over the contested will of the late tobacco heiress Huguette Clark has been delayed from today until Thursday, an attorney involved in the case told the Post.

An agreement was filed in Manhattan Surrogate’s Court postponing the beginning of jury selection, said attorney Harold Lee Schwab, who represents Clark’s former doctor Harry Singman in the fight over her $300 million fortune.

The news comes as NBC is reporting that the Attorney General’s office, which represents the interests of charities named in the will, is trying to broker an 11th hour settlement agreement.

A source told the Post the settlement talks, delayed in the past because Clark’s relatives could not agree on proposed terms, reignited very late last night.

The AG’s office did not immediately return calls for comment.
