Wait, is this a date?

If you watch New Girl you would know: Friends don’t let friends do friends.
Ladies, we’ve all been there. You get a text from a good guy friend: “Hey, havent seen you in a while. I just got back to town, want to grab dinner?” Yea, of course it would be great to grab dinner and catch up, it’s been so long, you reply. Great. Saturday? Great.
As you are getting ready Saturday evening, your roommate asks, “So what are you wearing on your date?” And then it hits you hard and suddenly: Wait, IS this a date? He’s cute, sure, but he wouldn’t take me out on a date, right? Or he would have said “I just got back into town, let’s go out on a date”, right? Riggghhhht.
The rest of night follows like we know it would: you noticing the slightest hand brushes on your arm, his oddly tucked in button down shirt ( never does that; maybe he has matured?), and of course him insisting on paying the bill.
Awkward hugs goodbye and loose promises to hang out again end the night, and as you close your apartment door, you ask , “What just happened?”

It’s a universal scenario, one which we all have been lucky enough to struggle through and probably will again. But, there is hope yet: Friends don’t let friends do friends. So when you have a night like this, don’t keep it yourself, tell your friend, and hopefully you nip it in the bud before he nips you in the ____.
The top telltale signs that you are, actually, on a date:

– He picks you up and Dave Matthews’s “Crash”  is playing in the car.
– Before dinner, he knows a great little place in the next town over for a quick drink: his parents’ house.
– He orders the main course for you.
– He has a second drink; you need a second drink.
– He talks about the white of your eyes.
– He hires a mariachi band to play.
– He hands you a pre-made mixed tape when he drops you off, beginning and ending with “Crash”.
– He changes his relationship status after he drops you off.
Good luck out there.
