Moore joins ‘Hunger Games’

The producers of the “Hunger Games” movies may be more concerned with box office bucks than critical plaudits, but that doesn’t mean they’re skimping on talent, casting four-time Oscar nominee Julianne Moore in the two-part franchise finale.

Moore will join Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson in “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1” and “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2,”  the final two entries in the incredibly popular movie franchise based on Suzanne Collins’  scifi trilogy. She’ll portray President Alma Coin in the two films.

While Moore earned her name acting in independent, award season-minded fare like “Boogie Nights” and “The Hours,” she’s no stranger to Hollywood flicks, having starred in “The Lost World: Jurassic Park” and “Hannibal” among others.

With the addition of Moore, five members of the “Mockingjay” cast have garnered a cumulative 13 Academy Award nominations for acting, including two wins. The other four nominated cast members include Lawrence, Woody Harrelson, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Stanley Tucci.

The first “Hunger Games” movie opened in March of last year and grossed $691 million internationally, the second film in the series, “Hunger Games: Catching Fire” will be released this March.

“Mockingjay – Part 1” and “Part 2” are set to be released in November 2014 and 2015 respectively.
