Accounting firm out at Usana

It’s musical chairs among the accountants for multilevel marketing companies Usana and Herbalife.

PricewaterhouseCoopers was the accounting firm for Usana and Nuskin, two other controversial publicly traded MLMs, before it gained Herbalife as a client this spring.

But on Sept. 16 Usana fired PwC, according to a regulatory filing made Friday. Usana quickly announced that it had hired KPMG as a replacement. KPMG had been Herbalife’s accountant until an insider trading scandal in March ended the career of the partner in charge of the Herbalife account, Scott London.

Usana shares are up 159 percent this year after falling 2.7 percent on Monday to close at $85.21.

The company, in a filing, said there were no disagreements with PwC.
