Suit against NYPD after Bronx man was shot dead by mistake

The mother of a young Bronx deli worker accidentally shot to death by cops responding to a holdup in his family’s grocery plans to sue the NYPD and the cop who shot her innocent son.

Reynaldo Cuevas, 20, was fleeing three armed men who held up the Morrisania bodega in September 2012 when he ran into housing cop Ramysh Bangali and the officer fatally shot him.

“The cop didn’t act in a correct manner and he shouldn’t have shot right away,” said mom Ana Cuevas, who filed the suit on behalf of Reynaldo’s young daughter, Jamie.

“It’s important because he had a small child and if I don’t do this who will provide for her in the future?”

The suit names the city, the NYPD, and Bangali and will be filed tomorrow in Bronx Supreme Court, said attorney Sanford Rubenstein.

“What’s even sadder is his 4-year-old daughter in the Dominican Republic. She’s still asking for her father. Her mother tried to explain to her that her father is in heaven but she still asks for him.”

The three men who held up Aneuryns Deli Grocery were charged with murder and are awaiting trial.

The Bronx district attorney investigated the shooting and found no wrongdoing by the police officer, a Bronx DA spokesman said.
