Tiger blames hotel’s soft bed on nagging injuries at Barclays

Tiger Woods woke up Wednesday morning in a soft hotel bed with stiffness in his neck and back, and the pain prevented him from hitting a full shot for the whole back nine during the Pro-Am tournament at Jersey City’s Liberty National.

Yet when the first round of The Barclays starts Thursday, thus commencing the opening event of the four-tournament FedEx Cup playoffs, Woods expects to be ready.

“I didn’t want to push it, so I just chipped and putted,” Woods said. “It was fine at home, just hotel beds.”

Asked if he will do something about the hotel bed to have it changed, he grinned widely.

“What do you think?” he said.

On a serious note, Woods was retrospective of his season, where he won five times on the PGA Tour – yet failed to capture his most-prized goal, a major championship.

“I think the overall package is how I look at it,” Woods said. “This year’s been a great year so far.”

Although he called it “great” on numerous occasions, he also said that he would trade all five of his wins for one major.

“You’re looking over a course of a career, and you’re going to have years where you don’t win major championships and years that you do,” Woods said. “There’s years where I’ve won one tournament and years where I’ve won nine. So as long as I keep winning in all those years, it’s not too bad.”

Woods was also critical of the golf course the last time this tournament was here, in 2009. Yet with the recent renovations to soften the greens and widen the landing areas, he now seems rather enamored.

“They’ve made some really nice, positive improvements,” Woods said.
