Giants RB didn’t mean to offend when he called fans ‘irrelevant’

David Wilson says he did not intend to offend anyone with a Tweet on Tuesday directed at “fantasy participants and pissed Giants fans’’ stating they are “irrelevant to me’’ after he received negative tweets following his two fumbles in the season-opening loss to the Cowboys.

“Yeah, frustrated would be a word to describe,’’ Wilson explained on Wednesday. “I expect greatness out of myself and that’s what I want. I don’t want anybody to think that’s not what I want, what I want is the best thing for this team. I might have said something about the fans and offended the fans, which was not my intention. Bad choice of words, 140 characters you can make a lot of mistakes. Without the fans, that’s who we play for, for real. It’s to go out there and get them wins because they look forward to seeing us win and have good games on Sundays.’’

Wilson was benched during the second half of the 36-31 loss at AT&T Stadium. Afterward, when he checked his Twitter account, he learned he was not being treated kindly.

“I saw people might have been getting the wrong impression of me so I just wanted try to clear it up,’’ Wilson said. “Like I said, all we got are the guys in this locker room and all our supporters. When we go out on the field we want to make our supporters happy. We work all week hard to do that.’’’
