Twitter scores NFL vet to bolster team

Twitter boss Dick Costolo, ahead of a likely IPO, continues to add high-quality talent to his business team.

Dave Pattillo, the VP of sales at NFL Media, is set to join the fast-growing social-media company, The Post has learned.

Pattillo, who has been with the league for 10 years, helping to get the NFL Network off the ground and drawing ad dollars to NFL.com and mobile services such as NFL Mobile, will become Twitter’s head of East Coast sales, according to Madison Avenue sources.

He starts in October.

Costolo is on a major hiring spree. Pattillo is the second major sports executive brought on board in recent weeks as Costolo looks to tap big-brand relationships in the hopes of reaching a sales goal of $1 billion by 2014.

The NFL, Pattillo and Twitter didn’t return requests for comment.

Earlier this month, Greg Reiss was hired by Twitter to be head of sports partnerships, according to a report.

The idea is that Reiss will shore up sports and talent relationships and help make sure Twitter is integrated in smart ways with regular media operations, according to the report in Sports Business Journal.

Twitter also scooped up Ticketmaster’s Nathan Hubbard to act as head of commerce in order to extend shopping opportunities on the platform.

The major Wall Street banks have been in talks with Twitter in recent weeks in order to prepare pitches to handle what is expected to be a $10 billion offering of the social-messaging service.
