Yigal Azrouel creates downtown vibe

The Who:
Editors like T style director Kate Lanphear and Cosmo’s newly-minted fashion market director Shiona Turini.

The What:
Black, white and grey were called upon to interpret Azrouel’s creative take on shadows and highlights. Cut-outs and mesh insets added sex appeal to gowns and shorter dresses, while pieces like structured culottes and a calf-grazing vest left much more to the imagination. Thus, the collection offered looks for a range of tastes — a leather bustier with a criss-cross neckline for some, and roomy tapered pants or a boxy short sleeve jacket for others.

The Highlight:
Organza eyelet matched with lambskin stunned, especially in the form of a black swing dress.

The Takeaway:
Dark as it was, the collection was a bona fide mood booster. Very downtown New York and very well done.
