Bad sign for Kerley’s health as Jets add WR Obomanu

The Jets have re-signed wideout Ben Obomanu, an indication Jeremy Kerley will miss Thursday’s game against the Patriots because of a concussion.

Obomanu, who was in training camp with the Jets, has 87 career receptions in 66 games, all with Seattle. If Kerley doesn’t play, the Jets have the unimposing trio of Clyde Gates, Ryan Spadola and Obomanu in relief of starting wideouts Santonio Holmes and Stephen Hill.

Don’t underestimate the significance of Kerley’s absence against New England. He was terrific against the Patriots last year, hauling in seven passes for 120 yards in the game in Foxborough and catching seven more passes for 86 yards in the Thanksgiving game at MetLife.

Mark Sanchez was on the field Tuesday watching practice and throwing left-handed. Sanchez is scheduled to visit noted orthopedist James Andrews for a second opinion on his injured right shoulder this week.
