3 injured in fire extinguisher attack at Midtown school

Three school safety agents were injured after a former student ran into a school and sprayed a fire extinguisher in Midtown, cops said.

The 24-year-old man walked into Liberty High School on 18th St. near Seventh Ave., around 1:30 p.m. and said he wanted to talk to a former teacher, cops said.

That’s when he grabbed the fire extinguisher nearby and sprayed the agent at the front desk in the face, cops said.

The man then ran up to the fifth floor and continued spraying in a hallway before he was arrested, police said.

“The guy was behind me. I was on the second floor and I ran. He just took off his clothes. He was right behind me and I was so scared. I ran into a classroom,” Sylla Fanta, a student said.

The three school safety agents were rushed to Bellevue Hospital along with the disturbed man and were being treated for chemical exposure, police said.

The man was fully dressed when cops arrested him. Charges are pending.

Nine students were also treated at the scene for having difficulty breathing but they were not exposed to the fire extinguisher spray, cops said.

The school was on lock down for 20 minutes and students were evacuated to the High School of the Humanities across the street as investigators cleared the scene.
