Fans’ ecstasy and agony during epic Auburn-Alabama finish

It’s already meriting consideration as the greatest ending in sports history.

On Saturday, Auburn’s Chris Davis Jr. returned a missed field goal 100 yards as time expired to shock in-state rival Alabama, 34-28, in the annual Iron Bowl grudge match.

The miraculous finish overloaded Twitter and spawned some emotionally raw fan reaction videos.

Here’s a look at the ecstasy and the agony (description above video):

The sudden change between an innocent-looking return and a clear path to the end zone is captured perfectly.

The definition of a house divided.

Olympic swimming gold medalist Rowdy Gaines, well, you can guess which school he attended.

This Alabama fan may have thought Davis Jr. stepped out of bounds on the return — he came close — but upon realizing he didn’t, things quickly went south.

Little kid doing Cam Newton Superman impersonation, yes please.

This family of Tide supporters held hands for good luck before Adam Griffith attempted the 57-yard field goal, but that did not change the Tide’s luck.

The biggest beneficiary from Alabama’s loss was the Ohio State Buckeyes, who moved up to No. 2 in the BCS standings that were released Sunday. The team was on the way back from Ann Arbor after defeating the Michigan Wolverines when the Crimson Tide were knocked off:
