JFK to open ‘cutting-edge animal facility’

JFK Airport is about to go to the animals.

The ARK, slated to open next year at the New York international airport, has selected a partner to run a splashy new “best of breed’ transport facility and terminal catering to both domestic and wild animals.

The Spot Experience, a fast-growing pet-services provider in New York, told The Post it has an exclusive partnership with developer Racebrook Capital to handle the new operations.

The facility is at Building 78 and spreads across 14 acres. The Post got an exclusive peek at a rendering of The ARK.

Spot already handles all animals transported by United Airlines cargo, running on-site facilities at Chicago O’Hare and Newark International airports.

“Spot is thrilled to sign on as the exclusive operator of such a cutting-edge animal facility as The ARK at JFK,” said Mitch Marrow, chief and founder of The Spot Experience. “All airline passengers deserve the highest quality of care, including animals.”

The ARK is projected to transport about 70,000 animals a year.

The planners bill it as the world’s only animal terminal — and the first USDA-approved, full- service, 24-hour, privately owned airport quarantine operation for the import and export of horses, pets, cats and dogs, birds (no word yet on frequent-flyer deals), exotic specialty animals, zoo animals and livestock.

Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine will run The ARK’s 24/7 veterinary hospital. Spot provides a team of veterinary technicians and animal behaviorists.

With those kinds of fur-nishings, ARK has claws to hope for a roaring success.
