Norman Rockwell painting stolen from storage unit

A Norman Rockwell painting that was sold for $1 million at an auction last May was stolen from a storage unit in Queens, the NYPD said Tuesday.

The 1939 painting, titled “Sport,” shows a man wearing a yellow jacket while fishing in a rowboat, his pipe whimsically inverted against the pouring rain.

It was discovered missing last month from Welpak Art Moving and Storage in Ridgewood, cops said.

The Welpak location offers shipping and storage for museums and private collectors. It has a state-of-the-art security system, according to the company’s Web site.

It was not clear who owns the painting, which appeared on the cover of the Saturday Evening Post — whose logo is part of the image — on April 29, 1939.

It was sold by a private collection in Birmingham, Ala., for $1,085,000 at Sotheby’s on May 22.

Cops said the oil painting is 22 by 28 inches and is framed in gilded wood.
