An infamous sign reading “Arbeit Macht Frei” or “Work makes you free” has been stolen from the Auschwitz memorial site in Poland.
Polish police announced the sign — made by prisoners — had been nicked from the entrance of the former Nazi death camp overnight.
Guards noticed it was missing this morning and raised the alarm.
It is the first time the sign has been stolen since it was erected in the early 1940s.
More than a million people — 90 per cent of them Jews — were murdered at Auschwitz during World War II.
