Attemped Christmas bombing was videotaped: reports

A Wisconsin family aboard the plane that Nigerian man Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab is accused of trying to bomb on Christmas Day said another passenger videotaped the entire flight including the attempted detonation of explosives, local media reports.

Patricia and Charlie Keepman from Oconomowoc, Wisconsin were sitting about 20 rows behind Abdulmutallab on Northwest Flight 253 from Amsterdam to Detroit.

They said another passenger sitting in front of them had videotaped the moment Abdulmutallab set fire to explosives that authorities believe were sewn into his underwear.

“This person actually was videotaping it,” Mr Keepman told The Detroit News.

Mrs Keepman told 620WTMJ’s “Wisconsin’s Morning News: “He sat up and videotaped the entire thing, very calmly.”

“We do know that the FBI is looking for him intensely. Since then, we’ve heard nothing about it.”

She said her daughter Ricki, one of two children the couple had adopted from Ethiopia, witnessed the videotaping incident.

The Detroit News said federal officials had no immediate comment on the Keepman’s claims.

Abdulmutallab was charged Saturday while still in a Michigan hospital recovering from third-degree burns sustained during the terror attempt with attempting to destroy an aircraft and with placing a destructive device on an aircraft.
